Review: Bourjois Queen Attitude Khol Kajal

So no posts last week, and I'm sorry about that. Le husband went on an overseas work trip so I trooped back to my mom's place to stay for a while. I was without my makeup photos or a proper working laptop but we're back on schedule this week!

Anyways, I was trawling my favourite online website - ASOS - and chanced upon this adorable looking thing.
Photo from ASOS.com.
Tell me how cute this is! It's like a lipstick tube, with a little ribbon hanging off the end of it. The name appeals to the inner diva - who doesn't want to be a queen or have massive attitude? It also apparently doesn't ever have to be sharpened.

From the Bourjois website, here's the description:

Bring out the Cleopatra in you!

Famous for intensifying and beautifying the eyes, our NEW Queen Attitude Khol Kajal gives a smooth and perfect line every time.

Cone-shaped for precision and to create an intense black line.

Enriched with pigments and natural waxes for a blendable, soft and ultra- easy application.

The Khol can be used on both the inner and outer rim of the eyes.

Paraben-free.

I knew what I was getting myself into - khol on monolids? What is this girl smoking? But I just can't resist adorable packaging so I got this at GBP$6.99, which is close to S$15.

Awwww it's a fat little tube, and check out the really sci-fi looking cone-shaped eyeliner!

It goes on so smoothly, almost like a waxy crayon! Black is deep and intense enough if you use a heavy hand.

I like how easy it is to apply. This would be perfect for amateurs - even managed a little flick at the end!

But I don't like how it transferred to my crease almost immediately. I did let it set for a couple of minutes or two, looking like a right idiot with my head tilted backwards with semi-closed eyes. But it still transferred! :(

Base: White (from NYX 10 Colour Eyeshadow Palette in Strike a Pose)
Lid: Brown (from NYX 10 Colour Eyeshadow Palette in Strike a Pose)
Contour: Copper Red (from NYX 10 Colour Eyeshadow Palette in Strike a Pose)
Outer V: Black (from NYX 10 Colour Eyeshadow Palette in Strike a Pose)

Who would like to guess the mess at the end of a normal work day?

Note that I work in an air-conditioned office, rarely step out into the scorching sun or the humidity since we usually have lunch in the mall where my office is, and I don't do any hard labour for work. Just sit there in front of the laptop.

The little wing has faded, which is expected but that mess! It got all over the lids! I looked like I had two black eyes. So awesome.

It also got to my lower lashline but I cleaned up a little. And this is still the resulting mess. :(

I think this eyeliner would be good for those with a high creases, so there's no way your lid will fold over the eyeliner and get it everywhere. You can smudge it out as well for smokey eyes, since that's the whole purpose of using khol. And this eyeliner is definitely one of the smoothest and easiest to apply, so it's not all bad.

I've also seen photos of how the Bourjois Queen Attitude Khol Kajal can look and am especially envious of the photo below from The Black Pearl Blog.

I don't think I can ever achieve something to this effect with my silly monolids.

A girl can only wish. :(

For now, the Bourjois Queen Attitude Khol Kajal goes to the back of my eyeliner drawer.

The Bourjois Queen Attitude Khol Kajal retails for $17 at local Sasa stores.

Review: Bourjois Regard Effet Metallise Metallic Eyeliner in Bleu Clinquant

So previously, I wrote about the Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in Neon Blue but that wasn't even my first Bourjois purchase. I headed to Sasa with every intention of purchasing the above mentioned but when I got there and started swatching, I was taken in by the Bourjois Regard Effet Metallise Metallic Eyeliner in Bleu Clinquant instead.

Got it at a discount at Sasa - think it only cost slightly over $15.

I don't know if you can see the colour. It's a bright metallic turquoise, and the eyeliner swatched beautifully on my hand. It's creamy, it's pigmented, it's everything you want in an eyeliner.

The blue showed through even on my hooded lids and it didn't sting my sensitive eyes. If you notice, the colour is bright and not sheer at all. It goes on so smoothly as it's so creamy - I guess the only con I can think of is how soft it is so it may break easily for some. Just be really careful when you're sharpening it and when applying it to your eyelids; don't push down too hard or the pencil may break.

You would think for a creamy eyeliner like this, the colour is bound to run and smear all over your eyelids and/or transfer to the lower lashline.

Tadah!

After 10 and a half hours! Aside from slight fading and the end having become a little more blunt, it looked good as newly applied! It didn't smudge at all, nor did it get smeary in my inner eye. There was no transfer to my eyelid or to the lower lashline. I was pretty much blown away by the quality of this eyeliner, at $15 no less.

And the colour is so vibrant, it brightens up an ordinary outfit and for some reason, also brightens up a dull day.

I've worn it on its own a few times without any eyeshadow and it looks as good. Since the colour is so pigmented on its own, I would rather it stand out than have eyeshadow mute the colour.

As long as Bourjois continues making this, I will continue purchasing it to death. Love this so much!

Review: Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in Neon Blue

So I thought I'd do a short post today about this eyeliner that I bought a while back due to awesome reviews. Also, Bunbun raved about it (in another colour) so that was enough for me. I picked up the Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner at Sasa at a discount, and it cost me just over $15.

The colour is a creamy royal blue, and is super pigmented.

I wanted to show the colour against minimal eyeshadow so that the true colour stands out.

Primed my lids with Too Faced Shadow Insurance Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer, and using the white eyeshadow from NYX 10 Colour Eyeshadow Palette in Strike a Pose as base, I applied the Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner across my lashline in the only way I know how - amateurishly. (Framed lashes with Silkygirl Big Eye and had a pop of Holika Holika Jewel Light Waterproof Eyeliner in One Carat in the inner corners of my eyes.)

As you can see, the colour is an intense electric blue and it shows through beautifully when eyes are opened (even on my hooded eyes).

At the end of another 11-hour day, here's how it fared.

Ignore how yellow the lighting is. Night photos in my room turn out like this because of the tungsten lights.
It did transfer and there was mild smudging in the inner corner of my eye, together with some fading but it wasn't too drastic - I didn't have much cleaning off to do from the lower lashline. And it honestly, it still didn't look as bad as Pop Beauty Cat Eyes.

I do love the colour since it's so pigmented, and it adds a dash of vibrancy to your everyday look. However, I do wish that it doesn't transfer. But that has yet to happen for any pencil eyeliners (Barry M came close) so I'm definitely still looking! Next up, I ought to put it to the test with water to see if it's as waterproof as it claims to be!
